Human Families and Relationships
The real family of any human being are the people that they
are most connected with psychically. Humans tend to place a
great deal too much emphasis on relationships which may be purely
physical: who they have sex with or who physically gave birth
to them. These aren't necessarily the closest relationships
for a human psychically.
To
understand how this came about, we have to take a step back
to understand how the concepts of family and relationships took
on such importance. In the time of Atlantis, people were very
psychically evolved, and they could clearly see who they were
connected with. They didn't tend to overemphasize the gross
physical side of things.
Unfortunately,
as recounted in Surfing the Himalayas, Atlantis sunk, and twelve
boats of highly evolved Atlanteans set out to spread the Dharma
elsewhere in the world. Eleven of the twelve groups didn't make
it--only the ones who landed in ancient Egypt did. In a bow
to human sensibilities, Rama didn't explain why the group in
Egypt was the only one to succeed. When they arrived on Egypt's
shores, they were a rather bedraggled bunch and not really that
evolved any more. However, the folks from Atlantis who landed
in Egypt had a big advantage over all the other groups: there
was already a large network of Enlightened Cats living in Egypt
who (probably foolishly) decided to take pity on these Atlantean
refugees and help them.
The
Cats, with perfect seeing, saw that these humans would have
to regain some etiquette in dealing with each other. Since the
humans had devolved so much, the only thing they understood
were the physical processes of birth, sex, and death, and so
the Cats recommended that for one lifetime the humans place
increased emphasis on these physical relationships so they could
learn etiquette in dealing with each other.
The
idea was that after they learned etiquette, they would regain
their psychic abilities and physical relationships would return
to their proper place as a secondary kind of relationship.
Unfortunately
the humans became very attached to the power that was associated
with these relationships, and they refused to sever these relationships
even when asked by the Cats to do so. Some families became more
powerful than others, and so naturally they saw it is a drop
in power to pursue Enlightenment. They didn't realize that the
Dharmic path is always more powerful than an egotistical path.
Some
of the powerful families became very egotistical and, if I may
dare to use the term, quite pompous. They continued to worship
Cats, which was probably the only thing they did right. But
they also build great monuments to the human ego, such as, in
the case of the most powerful families of all, the Pharaohs,
massive (and totally useless) pyramids which remain standing
to this day.
So
I guess the answer to your question is this: try to remember
what it was like in Atlantis. Give the relationships based on
the physical processes of birth, sex, and death their proper
respect, but don't become attached at all to the physical power
associated with those relationships, and always remember that
the psychic realms are a lot more powerful. And then try to
find an Enlightened Cat who will accept you as a student and
put you back on track.
