From my POV, *everyone* is an occultist. Most people don't
know they are occultists. Most people aren't very good
occultists.
To be clear, there are people who know they are occultists,
and they aren't very good at it.
There are people who don't know they are occultists, and they
are very good at it.
I also think the distinction made elsewhere between higher &
lower occult is a useful one. Lower occult encompasses much
of what is generally thought of when the term 'occult' is used,
and involves manipulation and some measure of deceit. Rama
cautioned against it, for the obvious reason that such practices
push one into lower states of attention.
What is higher occult? I would say that it is akin to mindfulness --
being aware of the ebb and flow of energies in our daily lives.
Noting which situations and behaviors raise our energy and lead
to higher states of mind, and which drain our energy and push
us into lower states of mind. Once one begins to look at events
in this way, one works toward having more of the former and avoiding
the latter.
