Subject: Re: Question on Karma
Even though we are mixing religions here a bit, your questions are interesting.

First, though, I have to disagree with one of your major presumptions - I haven't read anything that leads me to believe that enlightened beings are bound by karma. If one is perfectly merged with Eternity - God - then how can they have karma if they do perfect Dharma? Still, the big question is WHO is enlightened - and that I cannot answer.

So, leaving that out of the picture - I kind of like Rama's explanation for karma because it makes the most sense to me. Basically, we do see people "get away" with things all the time - whether they be Lucifer or OJ Simpson or George Bush. But do they actually "get away" with it? I don't think so. In Rama's "Karma" CD, recorded in Lake Waban in Massachusetts, he tells a funny story to exemplify this concept.

He said, imagine that you are in a romantic rowboat on Lake Waban with your loved one. But you are really jealous they have a lot of money and a nice Mercedes, so you decide to tip the boat and drown them. You are able to nicely explain the police the terrible event and they believe you. You get the Mercedes, the money, everything! You got away with it - right? Well, the problem is your state of mind.

When you commit adharmic acts, it may not come back to you exactly as you might expect - but your state of mind will reflect that karma. So, while OJ Simpson was found not guilty - he seems kind of messed up to me. Those types of acts send you in a downward spiral that may not be evident on the surface, but affect every aspect of how you see and approach life.

So, in your example, Lucifer may have great power - but I'm guessing he's not too happy. I mean really, how long can torture, pain and power really keep you occupied? Eventually you realize how lonely, bored and miserable you really are. Then you wonder how things might have turned out if you had stayed an angel after all.
