You are so correct UT, even given a simple week the mind grows ever more silent about the fun and bright lights of the Birthday Party. So here's my attempt to share before I lose any more of the event!

The Neptunian Womens Club is divided into 2 rooms. One of the rooms was used for beautiful displays of so many different menu items. The other room held the chairs and a stage (upon which Rama taught many times).

I was really busy working at the Foundation Table, selling Rama's books, CD's etc. In fact I was so busy, I don't think I ever got to step away from the table for more than 5 minutes. It was wonderful to see students just be attracted by the light coming from the books. As in other years, folks would often come by and just hold the book, and start reading it on the spot. Very way cool. Sales were amazing too, by the way.

Every once in a while when I could look up between sales, all I noticed was students greeting each other after many, many years of separation. There were a lot of excited squeals going on, and lots of smiles!

There was a silent auction which spanned most of the evening, and many bidders on very unique items. All the writers had their books there, and each got snapped up at a very nice price (all benefits went to pay for the event).

There were a few very good speakers at the event, including the Normans of the Foundation. The MC did a masterful job in guiding everyone through the events of the evening. It appeared the most difficult task on his hands was to break up the conversations in the dining area to get folks to sit for the Zazen concert. Folks really enjoyed talking to each other!

The concert that Zazen presented was masterful. The music filled the room in such clear, concise sound that it was as if each note led to a world all its own. Zazen at its best! From my position at the Foundation Table, it seemed that each person in the room was sitting straight up, back not even against the chair. Much like the old seminar days.

If there is something I would like to take away from this event and never lose, it is the lesson of how powerful working with other students can be. In the weeks previous, there was so very much to do. Yet each task was done with impeccability and preciseness. So much so you could rely on that persons work and not give it a second thought.

Not only were the presenters impeccable, but the folks writing in their RSVP's had very uplifting and happy thoughts that they expressed in their e-mails re the event. They came from literally, all over the world, and each was excited about their journey, and seemed to really enjoy the evening. It's really something to travel half way around the world to attend an event such as this, and they sure were having fun with it!

The next day I accompanied the team that did the Point Dume hike. Meditating on Sunday a.m. after a night of total rain was magical. The sun was out, the wildflowers blooming all through the canyon like area, dolphins playing and pelicans flying in unison.

So there you have it! Happy Birthday Rama, 2005!
