Don't believe everything you read.
Individual experience is the only test.
Do you feel bad about killing bugs, or is the book telling you to feel bad about killing bugs?
Do you feel or see it creating bad karma?
Books are often wrong and written to try to control rather than liberate. I have found the same true for teachers, many say they are teaching a path of liberation, but are not.
I believe that Rama's teaching focused purely on liberation (despite all the griping from us students)
Tibetan Buddhist liturgy can be as heavy and misinformed as any other religion. |
