Re: Zazen |
Wasn't that also the night he gave two members of Zazen their spiritual names? That is a great acknowledgement of their accomplishments (inner and outer) and not a "punishment" at all. Maybe I have the name evening mixed up with the flower evening...
Like you, I wanted to give the guys in Zazen more than flowers to show my appreciation. Usually Rama would play the music for us but not let us clap afterwards. I always figured he was holding us back so our praise wouldn't go to their heads and create bigger ego problems for them. The gesture of flowers and applause that night was incredibly beautiful and poignant, and I still feel the magic of that evening.
What you call Rama's ad-libbing I call seeing the truth of the moment and responding accordingly. Not all of us can do this well or consistently, but Rama did it better than anyone I know. I'm not trying to be argumentative, just speaking my mind.
Peace out :-) |
