Surfing Amsterdam: The Sequel #2 |
Amsterdam is a great place to pick up bad habits. And it's also a great place to go when your inner being has tired of that old, so-last-season's monk's habit but your outer being still hasn't accepted this, and longs to wear the olde clothes until either they wear out or it does.
My theory, which is mine, is that every so often it's a grand idea to return to a place of power that has strong associations for you (in terms of the states of consciousness you were wearing when last there), and use it as a mirror.
Amsterdam is like a carnival Fun House mirror. On acid. You get reflections of who you were when you were last there, of who you merely thought you were when you were last there, of who you are now, of who you merely think you are now, and of that weird guy standing behind you gazing at the woman in the window, missing the mirror entirely.
It's a real Road Trip. I've recommended it before. I do so again.
