Once I spoke with Rama about a teacher (who has long since passed) and Rama remarked that he was a saint. This teacher was a guy that spent nearly his entire life doing selfless service. He was really cool, funny and very humble. I once asked his students if he was enlightened and they looked at me like I had two heads. It was impolite to ask.
Later, in a talk that I attended, this teacher said he wasn't really there yet. I believed him and really admired his humility.
So, I think a saint is a person who is completely and selflessly devoted to service. They are someone who has reached a certain level of purity in their consciousness. |
