Machig. ah, i love that name.
from the little i've learned, she presented methods of utilizing fear as a Tantric approach to Enlightenment.
the practice is rather Kali-esque if you will, in that it involves hanging-out in scary places, offering oneself to demons, inviting demons in and allowing them to devour the body etc, piece by piece in a very gory kinda way, in order to transcend both fear and the dualistic notion of self and other.
pretty heavy.
i'm trying to think of Machig's place in the Tibetan pantheon. um, she may have been a mother. did she hang-out with Padma? i can't quite remember, but she's a fairly prominent emanation of Vajrayogini maybe.
gothic Buddhism, now what could be cooler than that?!
