Re: Thirty years of Roe Vs. Wade |
I had a legal abortion many, many years ago. Before I met Rama.
It was very helpful to me after I became his student when he explained from the perspective of enlightenment, there is no problem with abortion, that it's just "tissue", that the soul does not come in until right at birth, although can be hovering nearby and the mother may be communicating with it. He spoke on abortion several times, always from the viewpoint that it was up to the woman.
I was very poor at the time, and the abortion was paid for by the state I was in. I prayed very hard about the decision and Quan Yin appeared and gave me a message. And then I proceeded from there. And I was really glad I had taken the time to make the decision from a deep place as the biology involved felt like a great theft had happened ... no one had prepared me for the visceral emotion of loss.
A good friend took me from the clinic straight over to an acupunctrist who placed a few needles and removed the pain to where later I just needed one aspirin on one day and that was all. I wished every woman could have that kind of service and indeed that this form of pain relief was used in hospitals everywhere for other conditions as it was just astonishing to me how much difference that session made.
It is such a personal matter. I know the pro-choice groups have chosen not to run ads of what the old coat-hanger abortion results looked like in terms of women bleeding to death, and the younger women do not remember a time when "choice" was not there once pregnancy had occurred.
I had dinner the other night with an older ST1, and Roe vs. Wade was mentioned. She shrugged and said, "It's the younger women's turn now."
She is currently in considerable physical pain herself these days, so I did not press any issue with her.
