Subject: WRITING CONTEST UPDATE (upping the ante)

One doesn't have to have spent a lot of "quality time" with Rama to write about how his teachings have affected one's life. One doesn't have to even have *met* him to write a great story. So far, the story in this contest with the most phwam! was written by someone who was two years old when he died.

Most of the stories considered "spiritual classics" on this planet were written by someone who never had a living spiritual teacher. Someone or something inspired them and they wrote from a place of inspiration. And, by forging their inspiration into a story that inspired others, they re-inspired themselves.

That's the idea of this "contest" -- giving people who might not otherwise think of writing such a story the *experience* of writing to inspire others. It's one of the great highs one can experience in a lifetime, which is one reason I think Rama tried to share it with us by giving us "writing assignments."

To "up the ante" a little bit, the prizes for the contest now include:

-- Two copies of the original First Edition printing of "Insights," a book of spiritual poetry written by Rama

-- Two copies of the original First Edition "Surfing The Himalayas," with a different ending than the commercial version

-- One copy of the original First Edition "Pathway To Enlightenment" book, containing lovely photographs and some stories written by Rama's students

-- One never-worn bright pink Infinity Plus Consulting short-sleeve T-shirt (the one with the triangle logo with an eye in the middle of it), size Large

-- One never-worn but slightly faded anyway (go figure) light pink long-sleeved Zazen T-shirt (the one with the stylized Zazen logo), size Large

-- One set of never-worn Zazen sweat clothing, size Large. Pants are white with gold Zazen lettering on the leg. Top is long-sleeved, partly white, partly grey stripes, with a gold-embossed pyramid emanating golden rays from it on the front.

-- And the rarest of the rare, a WHITE never-worn Retrograde Planet T-shirt, long-sleeved, size Extra-Large, with the same graphics and lettering as the more well-known black one, but much brighter colors. I've never seen another one of these.

All are to be given away to those who write the best stories and post them here before the Summer Solstice, 2002. For those of you who tend to put off writing tasks until the last minute :-), the date of your submission is the posting time that shows up on the Message Board, which must be before the actual date/time of the Solstice. (Remember that "board time" is Greenwich Mean Time, not local time.)

Have fun!!! Multiple submissions are not only legal, they're encouraged. Winners will have to supply a snail-mail address to get their prize, so if you're so inaccessible this presents a problem to you, plan to give your prize away to someone else. :-)

I'm doing this because these items have been sitting in a box in my house for years now, inspiring no one including myself. If they can in some way inspire people here to discover the fun of writing to inspire others, I'll be inspired, too. :-)
