I think there is some mis-understanding about the numbers here...
can you cite the original report?

I don't think they're saying that men in the population at large
will outnumber women by 50% in twenty years, but rather that male
births will outnumber female births by 50% in twenty years. A
little fiddling with gross birthrate numbers should show how that
will effect the current gap of 5.3 million MORE women in the U.S.

Personally, I don't believe such numbers will continue for twenty
years, and one must also take into account the increased mortality
rates for men. So I doubt there is little chance of some huge
M/F population imbalance occuring in the near future. Nature
usual takes care of mis-matches in the long run, and I don't see
any environmental or other forces existing currently that would
result in such a fundamental shift in the population balence.

Playing the game anyway, one model that hasn't been mentioned is
that of insect colonies: one (or a small number) of dominant
females for breeding purposes, and some quantity of male drones.
At regular intervals, or when times get tough, a portion of the
drones are discarded to reduce demands on the colonies' resources.

Given the current male-dominated political structures, I doubt
this model would arise. More likely is a shift back to the days
of "putting women on a pedestal." Men would claim to respect
women, but I suspect that their rights would be gradually removed
in the name of protecting them. Women's power in society would
largely come about through the manipulation of men's libidos, and
as pointed out elsewhere in this forum, this would make it more
difficult for women to obtain enlightment.
