Correct Action -- choices |
I didn't want to start a new thread, and while the following may not directly relate to the orginal message, I thought the title was appropriate.
The following letter appeared on the editorial page today. I thought the sentiment was well expressed, and so I am passing it on.
------------------------------------------------------------
How shall I invest for the future? My life, that it is. Shall I watch my neighbors, inspect bags microscopically at airports, spy on everyone's e-mail, keep dossiers, and watch my back everywhere -- and pay legions of others to help me do this? Should I discourage the discontented poor elsewhere with bombs, even as the multinationals I have stock in contrive to sell them more cigarettes and get more labor out of them more cheaply?
Or shall I promote a Russo-Afgahan water pipeline, head to Pakistan, adopt some orphans, build greenhouses, grow a little food, find ways to put up ultra-low-cost housing, teach literacy and then language and history, and dish out as much healing and love as I can in the time I have left?
Which path would dry up the roots of terrorism more deeply and for a longer time? I wonder.
