Subject: from teacher to preacher
Does a preacher preach if no one listens? Is it the same sound as one hand clapping?

You brought up a poignant question UT. Pretty complex. So let's say, for the sake of discussion, that Sam decides to teach meditation. He says all along that he wants to share what he knows, but he is not interested in convincing anyone to believe as he does.

So he has meditation classes, and he talks. He answers questions. He tries not to preach, but Sam falls into a trap. UR1 has described the trap pretty accurately. Sam realizes that almost everything he talks about is based upon his belief system, and no matter how hard he tries, he can't keep his talks divorced from his beliefs. He tries to "convince" himself that he is not invested in students buying into his beliefs. IMHO, Sam is caught in the complex answers to your question UT, and URIs response.

So, here is a question back at you. How does Sam provide a service "teaching meditation", and avoid the preacher trap?? IMveryHO, Sam is in a heck of a mess. One option is to not teach, and that is viable. But that is the easy way out. What would you all advise?
