Subject: Is truth Truth or merely relative truth?

Just as a rap to (hopefully) generate interesting discussion, is there such a thing as Truth?

Many established spiritual traditions say No, that truth is a reflection of one's current state of consciousness. For example, the Upanishads are all written from the point of view of someone who can directly perceive the Unity of creation. Its focus is a view of the world as Oneness, where there is absolutely no difference between the light that a fully-enlightened being perceives as a daily reality within themselves and the exact same light in the world around them.

For such a fully-realized being, speaking this is truth. But if you're not *in* that particular state of consciousness, and say the same thing, is it still truth?

Same thing with "every experience we have ever had is enlightenment." From the point of view of someone who is enlightened, saying this could be truth. But is it still truth if someone who does not perceive enlightenment on a daily basis says the same thing?

I guess why I'm bringing this up is the number of comments recently that "everything is a dream," citing Rama as the source of the statement. From a certain point of view (his, at the moment he said it), this may be true. But is it an ultimate Truth?

I think not. For someone who does not *perceive* life as a dream to claim it is and base their entire life on that statement strikes me as problematic. What do you guys think?
