Re: what did Rama say about ... |
What Rama said often varied because he addressed individuals (or groups) who were dealing with specific issues at a specific time.
For example, at one point he suggested that we should make up work experience in order to further our careers more quickly. At the same time he also said that anything that we put on the resume we should be able to do. The idea was that we were learning about computers much faster then most people. But for many jobs which we were qualified to do managers were putting requirements like 'Must have 3 years experience'. The problem was the arbitrary standard (particularily some unspoken standards that were being applied to women) and he suggested a way of getting around it. But he was very clear to me that I needed to be able to satisfy the jobs/contracts that I took and that in the long term I need to maintain a clean resume that can be backed up by good references.
In Chapter 12 (page 138) of Snowboarding Rama talks about Buddhist etiquette as it applies to honesty. What some may consider lying might in fact be a persons etiquette to prevent another person from being deprived of their happiness.
The way that I feel also changes. So, being honest about all of my feelings today might lead another person to think something that isn't likely to hold true tomorrow. As others have said, when dealing with transient feelings it's better to watch what people do then what they say.
