Thanks for the clarification. Once DLO made that comment it was all clear! It was like that old adage about the three blind men feeling different parts of a elephant and coming to different conclusions about what it was. Once I felt the trunk instead of the leg it made perfect sense. No, I don't think that was distasteful at all given the context. The funny thing about this medium is that you don't always get all of the subtley of conversation right away (or I didn't anyway!).
The woman teacher that I have heard of consistently (as being enlightened) is Amma (aka Ammachi). She travels through the US each summer and has a website (http://www.ammachi.org/). I think that her style is pretty Bhakti, so she may not be suited for everyone's taste. But she certainly has "something going on".
