fast path |
I have been listening to a tape where Rama discusses the "Tibetan Book of the Dead". He mentions that the "fast path" allows one to experience the evolution of a thousand lives in just one ... rebirth without death. So ...
Say I have a great moment of clarity, a revelation, a rebirth once a week - which would be a pretty stunning statistic, as I imagine some lives would be limited to the understanding of a mere one (or even less). So, I would have to be studying for approximately 19 years at this constant rate to achieve this "thousand lives".
Well, I doubt that it is so quantifiable; however, I can't help but wonder how this works.
I certainly have no idea what timeframe/lifespan any single revelation I have experienced translates into as a "standard". In fact, I have no idea how to qualify the entire experience - what constitutes a lifetime-based learning.
It seems almost ridiculous and terribly ego driven to even attempt to categorise it that way. I simply accept my learning as something sacred and profound for me personally, in comparison to my prior perspective (and totally and utterly without significance to any other person), and don't try to intellectualise it or guess at how many lifetimes I have saved myself from living, simply because of the techniques I am employing in my study. In fact it bewilders me to think that anything I understand is not already understood by everyone else.
I have put this post on this private board in the hope that someone (or more) will answer me honestly and without hesitation.
Can anyone please explain to me how Rama explained this. What the definition of the "fast path" is - beyond the simple notion that "you advance through a thousand rebirths in one lifetime". In itself that begs explanation, and leads on to far greater questions.
What is to say how far we have come in our past lives, and how many more we have to traverse - in a non-linear manner - before we recognise the truth of enlightenment which is within us?
