Subject: What Is Enlightenment...Really?
I recently got an email from a friend who said he was enlightened. This brought a thought to my mind as to what Enlightenment really is. How does one know when one is enlightened? Is there a "green light" that goes on in your mind that says you have "arrived?" Since God, or whatever you want to call that consciousness is ALL there IS, then how can we can we know it all when there is always more to know? I think the best we can say is that we have gained a Higher Awareness than we had previously. To say we are enlightened suggests that we have become All there is, and I think that is very misleading.

I believe that the mind is almost like a separate entity because it is hard to control and it makes us see things that are not really there. We may start out doing what we think we want to do, but end up doing something totally opposite to our initial intention. The mind can also play subtle tricks on our consciousness and make us think we are seeing correctly.

I think Humility is probably the leveling agent to help us achieve a higher perspective. But then, the question arises as to are we truly being humble or is it just another fake virtue we are professing?

The old adage "You see what you want to see" is probably a wiser saying that is given credit for. Balance is a very important aspect to a spiritual aspirant because it keeps your seeing clear. You can't always count on your fellow spiritual students for that "Reality Check" because what makes you think they're not also delusional?

So, all we are left with in the end are questions...questions that can also be answers...if you are seeing correctly.
