How to Bake a Smile |
A monk passing through a shopping centre car park, encounters a mother burdened with shopping. She has a bandaged foot, is using a crutch, has two bags of shopping in each hand and a young child following.
The monk inquires whether she would like assistance, she replies that this is unnecessary since she has almost reached her car.
On suggesting that he would gladly hold her shopping while she opens the vehicle, the monk takes the weight of the shopping. The woman breaks into a broad smile of relief, smiles all around, the monk places the shopping carefully in the car.
The woman then offers the monk, as a thankyou, a voucher from a local bakery for a free loaf of bread. The monk thanks the woman, but politely declines, stating simply ... that he bakes his own bread.
...
Just a little something that I witnessed earlier today,
