Don't know much about it, other than the fact that it's controversial. The current Dalai Lama has made statements about the practice saying that he doesn't believe it's safe or beneficial. Many others believe otherwise. The propaganda arm of the Chinese government, which has a $2.5 million-dollar-a-year budget to discredit the Dalai Lama, has jumped on this issue and produced reams of written material and gigabytes of Internet spam trying to use his statements to 'prove' that he's trying to suppress religious freedom among Tibetans. It's a well-orchestrated campaign, and the posts look as if they're coming from a number of concerned individuals, but U.S. hackers concerned with Tibet's future have tracked down the majority of them, all of which seem to originate from one office in Beijing. |
