Subject: Different mechanisms of energy conservation
I've noticed a few thoughts here lately, buried deep in unrelated threads, about conserving energy. Many of them echo some of Rama's teachings from the early days -- you know, inaccessibility, watching your relationships to make sure they aren't a "drain" or not having relationships at all, that sorta thing.

While I am as steeped in these ideas as anyone here, such comments also made me deal with more recent encounters, and the realization that the individuals I have met lately who seem to have the most energy (both physical and spiritual) are the ones who pay the least attention to it. They are all healers, and do not have the option of picking and choosing whom they interact with; they have to deal with anyone who asks them for help. And they never seem to give even a thought to whether they are "losing energy" in these interactions. Yet their energy levels not only remain high, they seem to get higher every time I see them.

Could it be that another mechanism for preserving energy is giving it away? That is, after all, the whole idea of selfless service. We have all seen folks who went so far overboard on the "conserving energy" thing that they managed to stop all energy flow whatsoever. And in my opinion, if it ain't flowing it doesn't exist, no matter how we try to convince ourselves otherwise.

Very interested in other students' views on this...
