I think that Rama thought there was a place for therapy. He actually mentioned that if someone felt that they needed therapy, that was fine, they should drop out for a while and come back later.

He didn't recommend doing it at the same time as being a direct student. Being a student was sort of like "basic training" in the army. It was very intense and really pushed your ability.

To give an example, if you had a leg injury, you might go to physical therapy. Once that had healed properly, you might be ready to build up to the level where you are ready for "basic training". You wouldn't want to do one before the other, because you might reinjure yourself and make it worse than before.
