All Paths are the same? |
|
A teaching that is often reiterated in New Age circles and appears easy to assimilate but I have been having a problem with. A path of graft, usury, acquisition and its protection is not the same and does not lead to the same place as the path of a homeless wanderer. The path to fight and die for what you believe is not the same as one of compromise and peace. The paths are many and in and of themselves do not lead to the same place. Siddartha the first human in recorded history to become enlightened followed the mystical and religeous path of his country even becoming a teacher with many students. However he upset his students when he stopped communing with god, discarded the grand scheme the universal ranking order of the reincarnational caste system and proclaimed that in order to truly trancend the self there must be no eternal soul "anatman". These days it seems even theologins can become enlightened :-) so the way I have resolved this semantical nonsense for now is that it is not the path in themselves but the Bodhi (the urge toward enlightenment) in each individual that can flower under any condition. |
