Q: How do you select your students?
Atmananda: I don’t select my students. I allow the Infinite to select them for me. Each person – when they reach a certain level of inner advancement – finds a spiritual benefactor. To say that the benefactor selects the student or that the student selects the benefactor is really not correct. It is the Infinite that does the selecting.
Q: Do you accept all of the students that apply to study with you?
Atmananda: No, I don’t.
Q. What is your criteria for accepting and rejecting students?
Atmananda: I will accept a student if I can be of real help to them. I am a spiritual benefactor. I have spent many years in meditation and spiritual practice. Through the grace of the Infinite I have achieved Satori (illumination). People who study with me will also achieve Satori eventually.
It is pointless for me to accept a student whom I cannot lead to illumination. I would simply be wasting both their and my time. I have a great respect for all human beings. That respect compels me not to accept anyone whom I cannot be of real help to.
Q. Do the people you accept have any particular qualities?
Atmananda: Yes, they do. Most of my students have a great deal of inner development. In their past lives they have meditated before, and a number of them have studied with me in a previous incarnation I had as a Zen master in Japan.
I accept beginning, intermediate and advanced students. But I will only accept students who manifest the qualities of love and joy in addition to their other qualities. I don’t care how many problems a person may have. I can work with them very effectively as long as they possess these two qualities.

Q. What is Initiation?
Atmananda: Initiation is an essential part of the process of Self Realization. At the time of your initiation your benefactor will go into Samadhi and meditate upon you. He will then become totally one with your inner being. At that time he will establish a psychic connection with you. From that moment on, when you think of your benefactor he will psychically come to you. This way, no matter where you are or what you are doing, you can be guided and assisted by your benefactor.
Real initiation is a gift from the Beyond. The day you are initiated your benefactor changes your inner direction. It then becomes infinitely easier for you to meditate, and your inner evolution is speeded up. It is an essential and beautiful step in self discovery.

Q: What is the best attitude a student of yours can have?
Atmananda: To be in love with life. My students live in the world. They have jobs, provide for themselves, and are at the same time growing into the Beyond. But there is one essential quality that they must have if they want to achieve Illumination in this lifetime. That is a love for the Infinite.
I am an illumined spiritual benefactor. I will guide you across the Infinite if you have faith in me. But always remember that life is the great teacher. Whether you are sitting in meditation with me, or if you are in the office working, you can be learning and growing at every moment. The trick is to learn to fully conscious. To be fully conscious is to be in love with life. Love is the keynote of our path. You must learn to love both the finite and the infinite. Ultimately, it is only your love for the Beyond that will cause you to realize God. If you have that love your inner life will be flooded with joy.
I teach my students how to love. They meditate with me and learn to be servants of humanity. If you are interested in realizing the Infinite through joy and service, and if you want to cultivate humility, purity and love, then I can be of help to you. And remember, always bring your sense of humor with you wherever you go. It will help you to balance on the tightrope of existence as you walk between the worlds.
