Subject: Meditation and Lowering Blood Pressure
I had a woman in class the other night who was there for the first time. She asked if meditation could help her lower her blood pressure.

I've very hesitant to make any specific medical claims, so I was slow to answer.

However, this one turned into one of those peer-teaching moments. One older man quickly spoke up that he had been to his check-up recently and his blood pressure is usually considered high. He said the nurse took the readings 2 times because she could not believe how much it had come down.

Then a couple more people chimed in with similar stories. And one woman said she had needed some surgery and her blood pressure had to be in a certain range for them to go ahead and she had asked them to wait just a few minutes and come back and she quickly popped a cassette in, did a meditation and then let them do the reading and she was within the range and they could go ahead!

I was just amazed...they had never shared any of these stories before, and it was like popcorn!

I realized I sometimes just ask, "Any questions?" and I need to also ask, "Any cool stories?"!
