Religious influences, Posted by: LightDancer |

Most religions start out as spiritual practices. They are teachings intended initially to help guide the lives of students. Slowly over time the teachings become rules and the practice becomes institionalized into a religion.
So each religion has truth as its foundation. But the structure is built by men and as such is only as 'enlightened' as its current leaders.
Looking at history it seems to normally take about 500 years for a spiritual practice to become corrupted. When it does, another enlightened teacher normally comes along and reforms the practice. The west seems to have been an exception. We don't seem to have had many in the last 2000 years. Perhaps that lack of teachers is changing. One can only hope. :)
