Children and Meditating, Posted by: Lizard |

OK, so child-of-freespirit took me by surprise ...
A few days ago I picked her up after work, and after a minute I asked her if she had a good day. "Be quiet!" she said. I was a bit taken aback! "I beg your pardon?" I replied. She repeated louder and with great force "Be Quiet!"
I said "If for some reason you don't want me to talk, you should politely say 'Please Mummy I don't want to talk now".
"I said 'Be Quiet' because I am meditating! Mummy!" she replied!!!!!!
I glanced sideways - there she was with eyes shut, and her hands held up in front as if praying. That isn't how I meditate, but I know it is a yoga posture, and given that this little chicky knows yoga from ... well ... some other life ...
Then Zazen kicked in on the stereo. "Turn it down!" She pleaded. She was terribly serious!
I explained that it was quite good to meditate to - that she should just relax and listen to the music.
After about 5 or 10 minutes she started to move her hands around. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what she was doing. She was moving them around in a dance-like fashion. The things being, that this hand movement was identical to the way I saw Rama dance about 12 months ago during a meditation - and it was the same song playing!!!
I asked her "Why are you moving your hands like that?". She replied "It is like my karate!"
... so there you go - she never ceases to amaze and delight me! |
