Re: Can a teacher only teach? |
Its my experience that teachers have some knowledge but the art they are "learning" hopefully is how to make this knowledge most available for the student who wants to learn. Some teachers just put out information others learn how to interact with the student and develop a relationship.
I've found that what the student learns from you is not necessarily what you sought out to teach. They take what they want or feel they need. And of course dealing with groups of people can be much more challenging than dealing one on one.
One of the things I realized Rama had done early on in the game was to really examine his students. He had some abilities to see their past lives and their most recent past. Part of this admiration was to look and see what it was that they had actually done right, see how it might fit a pattern and then present that information to others. After all its all the workings of OneMind.
As a teacher you should become a better student because you have to question everything you do. Integrity is of the utmost importance. Are you following the guidelines and precepts that you set for others. Are you doing what is right for you to do? YOU have to question yourself constantly. Not avoiding the hardest or most difficult student you learn to stretch and strengthen understanding. This sense should develop as you begin teaching.
Even after Rama had hundreds of students and the luxuries of a successful teacher he said he still questioned his actions and decisions.
Since were all human there will probably be times when we get stuck. And our students either have to be patient with us or try someone with another approach.
