For the Beginning student an Enlightened Teacher is probably not neccessary. To learn the basics of meditation (techniques, what your trying to do, meditation experiences ....)probably any one will work for you. Now then, depending on your committment to Truth, Self Awareness, Self Discovery ... (you pck a term) or just your love for Light, you will need a Teacher to show you what it's like, and teach you how to reach those states of mind on your own. There are basically, two types of teachers, Exoteric and Esoteric. The exoteric techer can teach you the basics and perhaps show you a few neat 'powers', but the esoteric teacher (Enlihgtened Being) is needed to do the inner teachings, the direct transmissions of Light.
Do you need a Teacher? Maybe not, but in the advanced stages of Self Discovery a Teacher is indispensible. And, when the student is ready, the Teacher will appear (one of several 'laws' of the Universe). |
