Rubbish.

Which would you rather drink from: an expensive, finely
crafted coffee cup, or an old, stained, cracked coffee mug
with a chip missing from the rim? The idea that the cup
adds no quality to the coffee is a dualistic notion.

The vessel is just as much a part of the experience of
drinking something as the liquid. They are both parts of
the whole. Neither is more or less important, except by
arbitrary designation. And both are equally transitory.
Why not enjoy the pleasure of drinking coffee from an
exquisite porcelain cup?

Similarly with one's job, wealth, or position in society.
There is nothing wrong with being successful in any of those
areas. The key, as in most things, is balance. To focus
on material success to the exclusion of other areas of life
is a problem because of the lack of balance, not because
material success is inherently harmful.

One of the underlying ideas exhibited by the story is that
materialism is at odds with living a spiritual life, that
one must choose one or the other. This is a false dichotomy,
and contrary to Rama's teaching. Indeed, Rama was clear
that, particularly in the West, material success is an
enabling factor to spiritual success.
