Halloween |
I think this day has special meaning for spiritual aspirants. It originated as a night in which evil spirits would come out and folks would wear their scariest costumes to scare the evil spirits away.
Going back to Rama's books about Snowboarding, I suppose I could dispense with the costumes and jack-o-lanterns and just yell "PHAT" at all the corners around the house.
However, I've managed to buy myself an outfit closely resembling Neo's from the Matrix (sorry Neo, not to steal your thunder). It's been sitting in the closet for a couple of months and there is a chance I might find myself in it...which brings me to my next stupid joke...
There's this drunk guy in a bar causing havoc and the bartender cuts off his drinking supply after he starts beating up patrons. The drunk guy threatens to beat up the bartender if he doesn't give him more alcohol and the bartender pulls out a shotgun and says, "No, I think you've had enough, partner," and throws him out of the bar. The drunk guy, now enraged, sees a nun across the street and runs over there and knocks her out cold and says, "Not so tough NOW, Batman, eh?"
So, halloween started off as a way to scare off evil spirits and ended up bringing in big profits to the dental profession, candy makers, and sexy, funny and monstrous outfit designers.
What did XMas start out as or for that matter, any holiday? Holidays evolve into whatever the party flavor of the day is. Halloween in Spain might be trick or salsa with carved tomatoes (I don't know ask UT).
Happy Halloween.
