What Impresses Me In A Spiritual Teacher Or Path, Posted by: UT |

looking to the long term students |
I look at all of the qualities that UT mentioned. However, I am going to primarily judge the teacher based not on whether the teacher displays these qualities, but whether their long term students display these qualities. The long term students are the best guide to where I will end up myself if I study with the teacher for an extended period.
In addition to the qualities that UT mentioned, I also look at how the long term students are doing financially and in relationships. I've come to see that it is probably not necessary for everyone to be rich or be a superstud or sex object. But I've also noticed that money and sex seem to be the issues that most commonly bring down a spiritual community, so I look closely to see whether the long term members of the community are at peace with themselves in both these areas. If the long term students are often suffering through painful unemployment, it will give me pause to reconsider whether I want to study with the teacher.
