Subject: Enlightenment is Private First
I just read the thread about secret enlightenment. A few thoughts surrounding the concept of enlightenment, the realization of enlightenment, and the personal choice regarding sharing the light.

I do remember Rama saying that teaching to such a large number of students was unusual, and frequently a teacher would take on a student or two. He suggested that teaching to such a large number of students took its toll on the body.

I suspect that enlightenment is not what you think. I know it is not. I also suspect that it takes a long time to realize that you are finally sitting in samadhi, and longer to realize that what you are experiencing is enlightement.

I also think it is 'true' that all moments are new, and enlightened moments come and go. So, as UT said, perhaps announcing enlightenment is problematic, since it is not a static condition.

I have sat with some of the public teachers including Tony and Kundalini. I have also sat in medition with other people who dissolve in the clear light are very quiet about their level of enlightenment. I respect that for a lot of reasons. Humility comes in various packages. Perhaps some of these people who dissolve and disappear into the silent light will announce to someone that they are awakened. Perhaps they already have, to a few sudents. I wonder how long Rama waited before he accepted his enlightenment, and how much longer until he announced it? Not sure anyone knows the answer to that one.

My personal experience is most closely aligned with UT's description. Enlightenment ebbs and flows, like the tide. Some moments glisten like the magical moments in the desert night. Some are just piss poor. Perhaps there is a time that all moments, 24/7, are moments of enlightenment. If that happens I'll let you know, until then, I'll enjoy the tides.
