The 'Shadow Side' of The Lost Tomb of Jesus |
On another forum this morning, in another context, I posted the following rant, in response to some TM supporters suggesting that a former TMer who had written a few things critical of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was "in league with demonic forces" and "should burn in Hell":
"This is classic Jungian projection. When confronted with one's *own* doubts about one's spiritual practice, teacher, or tradition, ETERNALIZE them and project all the anger that one feels towards ones self for feeling these doubts onto those who are open about having them, or worse, onto those who LAUGH at the doubts and at those who feel threatened about having them. And the deeper the doubts that the seeker of this type has, the worse they portray the externalized 'enemy' (their own "shadow side") to be."
Then I read some of the News surrounding the film due to be shown this Sunday on the Discovery Channel. On Reuters, as printed in the Hollywood Reporter:
"Greece's powerful Orthodox Church on Thursday accused the director of the movie 'Titanic' of historical ignorance and of trying to damage the Christian faith for claiming he discovered the tomb of Jesus Christ."
From TIME's James Poniewozik, in an article entitled "Hollywood vs. Jesus":
"Appearing in New York City with a limestone coffin that he claimed had held the remains of Jesus, Cameron attacked a central Christian tenet--that Christ rose bodily from the dead. Yet he confirmed another article of faith: that Hollywood blasphemers are out to get Christians."
T'would seem that these are not necessarily Poniewozik's views, but a reporting of events as he sees them, because he goes on to say:
"The furor over the documentary The Lost Tomb of Jesus, which Cameron is producing, was caused by an unholy alliance of two Christian-right bugbears: science and Hollywood. (If only Hillary Clinton could have been involved too--Pat Robertson's head might well have exploded.)"
and:
"The dustup aggravated old, sometimes ugly, tensions between Christians and Hollywood--including, yes, that one. 'It is an evident and clear truth that Jews control Hollywood productions,' wrote a respondent to a post on the New York Times' the Lede blog, while others made anti-Semitic insinuations about Israeli-born Tomb director Simcha Jacobovici."
TIME's Middle East Blog received more than 3000 angry comments responding to the first mention there of the documentary, a large number of them reputedly saying that Cameron and Jacobovici should burn in Hell for making this film, and a few suggesting that if it weren't for the barbarous, unGodly state of Law in this unenlightened age, they would be first in line to send these two to Hell, by killing them themselves.
And all of this over a film that NONE OF THESE PEOPLE HAVE SEEN YET.
Go figure. I mean, really...go figure. It's a DOS planet.
