Unity |
Life has been teaching me about unity and division. Unity is about finding common ground. To reach unity one must break down the barriers that we have in our minds. The attachments that we have to the things that we like (which others might want to take away from us) and the aversions that we have to the things that we don't like (which others might thrust upon us) are confronted on the path of unity. The path of unity, for me, is one of compassion because it is through having compassion that a person comes to understand where another is coming from. I think that unity leads one closer to enlightenment.
Division of coarse is about creating barriers and separation. Division is about putting up barriers between yourself and others. A self cannot exist if there aren't any barriers to distinguish self from other. So division seems to lead away from enlightenment.
This doesn't mean that people shouldn't take a road trip or even leave completely. But when when I feel an urge to take a roadtrip I ask myself if I just need to see the other side of some mental mountain for a few days or if I'm pushing something away. Pushing something away doesn't fix the issue and Life will always find a way to bring that issue up again. The only way to fix an issue that is creating division inside my mind is to deal with it inside myself.
