I am respectfully going to differ just a bit from the others. I think that it does matter- depending on what you are looking for.
There are many wonderful teachers to choose from. However in my (unfortunately less than humble opinion) – a teacher can’t teach about a place that she has never been to. It’s like getting directions from a blind-legless man. Maybe he has crawled there and knows the way infinitely better than the local enlightened gal, but it’s less likely.
With that said- go study with whomever you feel is helping you.
For me the question has been- how do you know if is he or she really enlightened? How do you define enlightenment? What is your lip ness test?
