There's been a lot of talk on the message board about teachers. Is this teacher enlightened? Is that teacher enlightened? How do you tell if this teacher is enlightened? How do you tell if that teacher is enlightened? If this teacher is enlightened, how will that effect things? If that teacher isn't enlightened, how will that effect things? Some have their own answers to these questions. Others have answers for others questions. Some have no answers to these questions. Others have no answers for others questions. Around the block we go and we're still going around the block. One day, I stopped walking around the block and it got really quiet. And in the silence I could hear another question.
How can you tell if you are a student of an enlightened teacher?
It kind of goes back to that concept of look within for the answers.
If I am the dreamer (think of yourself here), and the enlightened teacher is part of my dream, then whether or not they are an enlightened teacher has an answer which is dependent upon the dreamer. The effect they have on me (whether or not I am getting closer to enlightenment myself) depends entirely on whether or not I am the student of an enlightened teacher. In other words, if you told yourself before you went to sleep in the maya to wake up in the dream and look at your hands (Castaneda reference) and the equivalent of this in the waking state of being asleep in the maya is to see your enlightened teacher, then if you see them, you have accomplished looking at your hands. If you can see your hands, now start to see if you can look around at life and eventually shift your focus to yourself and see if you can look in the mirror and if you dissolve, then are you starting to wake up out of the maya? |
