Interview
With The Author
Why
did you decide to write a book?
My intent in writing this book is share some of the wonderful
knowledge that I received from Rama through the years.
What did you learn by writing a book?
I came to the realization that you learn a lot more about a
certain topic when you try to explain it to someone else. Going
over old notes, books, and memories, helped me to gain a deeper
understanding of the nature of meditation and self-discovery.
Do you have any suggestions to help others publish
their books?
Write, write, write. Then, rewrite, rewrite, rewrite. When the
book is ready, the right publisher will come along.
How do you inspire yourself to write?
Caffeine... It's better to write late at night. If you don't
have the time late at night, early in the morning works well
too. Have some music in the background. For some reason, I write
better when I listen to "Cayman Blue" by Zazen.
Do you have any funny stories about things that happened
while you were writing the book?
I wrote the first draft of my book at one of the computer labs
at UCLA. My friend Jane used to come over between classes, hang
out, and try to read parts of the book before it was finished.
It was very encouraging. One day, one of the lab assistants
started reading the book over my shoulder and started asking
all kinds of questions about meditation and kundalini yoga.
He told me that he wanted a copy of the book when I was done,
otherwise he would tell the lab supervisor that I was going
over the 4 hour a day computer usage limit at the lab.
Do you have anything else that you would like to add?
Writing a book is like having a child. Once it's out there people
will see it and you will experience many emotions; excitement,
pride, embarrassment, mortification, and a great sense of joy.
