"Essential Meditation"

For a wonderful meditation try burning some essential oils in a ceramic vaporizer. Fill the vaporizer bowl with water and light a candle underneath, then add your chosen oils. The water and volatile elements of the essential oil evaporate into the air giving it a beautiful fragrance, and at the same time, our olfactory nerves transmit the scent to our brain. Scientists have shown that there is a physical and psychological response within four seconds! I recommend you set the vaporizer burning about ten minutes before you start your meditation, that way the water temperature rises enough for the vaporization process to begin, and the room will be filled with beautiful scent from the beginning of your meditation. It also provides a candle focus if you like one. Certain Essential Oils have specific benefits for meditation: Frankincense, Bergamot, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Clary Sage, Pine, and Lavender. They can be used either singularly or in combination. Recipes specifically recommended for meditation include:
My personal favourite is a mixture of
Of course any combination that you find pleasing would be of benefit and you can combine just 2 oils. Here is a brief description of some of the benefits of these oils: Frankincense (Olibanum) Benefits
to mind and emotions: rejuvenating, comforting, fortifying. Bergamot Benefits
to mind and emotions: to dispel nervous anxiety and butterflies,
uplifting, refreshing. Myrrh Benefits
to mind and emotions: inspirational, empowering for life’s
direction, fortifying. Sandalwood Benefits
to mind and emotions: strengthening, brings courage, helps
to center and stabilize. Clary Sage Benefits
to mind and emotions: euphoric, uplifting, promotes communication,
reduces tension. Pine Benefits
to mind and emotions: refreshing, brings inspirational
clearing. Lavender Benefits
to mind and emotions: gently sedating, nurturing and calming,
soothing. Things to be careful about: Only use pure essential oils (from a reputable company), as the cheaper fragrant oils and diluted blends of essential oils may have no therapeutic value, and may also result in allergic reactions. Also make sure you buy quality candles with low paraffin wax – this means less odour from the wax and a lower flame – much safer! You can also buy electric (non-flame) burners which eliminates the risk of accidental fire!
