Rama believed that career is very important.. His students do not live in a monastary. They are individuals who live and work in the world. Our career, the way that we earn a living, takes up most of our time. So we want our careers to further our Buddhist practice.

Rama recommended careers in computer science and technology because:
1) Technology generaly requires a very structured mindset.
2) The working conditions (eg: workplace and people) generally tend to be less abrasive then many other occupations.
3) Technologists tend to earn a good salary.

This section contains articles that explore this topic in more detail.

"As you may know, I have a favorite profession, and that's computer science. I feel that the computer world is a fine place for spiritual seekers to be. Because the mind-set that it takes to use computer technology is the Zen Mind. It's very similar. In other words, as you meditate, your mind changes in specific ways, and those ways are perfect for people who program computers."
