Om Mani Padme Hum
Long Distance Connection

I am proofreading transcribed recordings of Rama's lectures. When I listen to his voice, it is easy to visualize what he is describing. You can feel the surroundings where he is dictating from. Rama describes Eternity and the pursuit of Eternity in ways that are easy to visualize. He uses present life scenarios to paint a picture of the idea he is trying to teach/describe. It's refreshing to hear the information just flow through him.

When reading copies of his lectures, I find I can relate some of the points in these lectures to my present life, my fears, my questions. Listening to him helped me get in touch with my inner self. I discovered that there is no right or wrong way to meditate - there are different approaches that work best for each of us. He has taught me to practice patience, to listen to and see all that is around me.

I met Rama, finally, in person for the first time at a Surfing the Himalayas book signing - what a sense of humor he has! Rama will be explaining an idea and just when you're really into visualizing that idea and contemplating how it must feel to be in that state, he will throw in a humorous line that lightens the spirit. You then realize not to take yourself too seriously. I've heard wonderful stories of the room engulfed in golden light from people that have gone to listen to him speak. I'm looking forward to reading his book Snowboarding to Nirvana while I'm on vacation.

I enjoy the freedom to listen to Rama without the pressure to "follow" him. I don't believe he wants "followers" - just participants on the journey to perhaps getting a glimpse of Eternity.
