Om Mani Padme Hum
First Encounter with Rama

contributed by RamaDrama

The First Time I saw Rama was in 1982, in Santa Monica's Sheraton ballroom. I had no idea what to expect. I was engrossed in a novel as I sat in the audience waiting for the speaker to arrive. A strange body massage pulled me out of my novel and into a new reality. I looked up just as the svelte curly haired speaker stepped onto the stage. The music of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band abruptly disappeared into silence. Rama's lecture alternated between light humor and the truths of eternity. During the second meditation the room disappeared. A tunnel of light connected me to Rama. Suddenly a sorcerer dressed in blue and gold jumped out of Rama. In exaggerated body and facial gestures he tried to get a message through to me. I could sense the urgency in his communication. Suddenly the room reappeared, and I found myself leaning forward, perched on the edge of my chair with my mouth wide open. Rama was looking at me, and he was laughing.
